Cover of The Rolling Stone

"Cover of the Rolling Stone" by Dr. Hook is a catchy song that teases and makes fun of rock and roll start. Mentioning all the things that rock ares about like money, fame, groupies, limo rides and most obviously being on the cover of popular magazines like the Rolling Stone. This song came out on March 29th, 1973 and many of their songs followed a similar theme by poking fun at rock stars. Ironically, 3 of the 7 band members made it on the cover of the Rolling Stone and the famous magazine played along with their joke using the lyrics from another song called "What-is-their-name-made-the-cover". Ultimately their song gave the magazine the kick start it needed and the publicity being that the magazine's only 5 years old at the time.

21th Century

"Reading in a Whole New Way"

This article talks about how reading became a part of our lives and how it was involving through time. With the advance of technology, people were worried that reading would become something obsolete however, it had the opposite effect. More and more people started reading just because it was easy for them to read, they just had to unlock their phones for example. The article also talks about how people are relying on technology way more as a way to save their personal informations and how in the future it will work as a place that we will storage all of of the moments of our lives.

"Everything Science Knows About Reading On Screens"

This article talks about how with the development of technology has been affecting people's reading and how much they can absorb when they do it. It argues that reading in paper is still better than reading in a screen because the screen provides a lot of distractions, what might compromise their understanding of the text. However, the article also says that with this technology advancing so fast, we have to be able to adapt to this new trend, but in the end, the act of reading a book is still scientifically proven to be better.

**

These two articles discuss our experience with reading and how technology has affected it with its development. However, the articles have different approaches. The first article focuses on how technology will become more and more a bigger part of our lives and how it improve on how much people read daily. The second article had a more negative approach when it comes to the influence of this new technological era in our reading. It discussed how it can decrease the quality of our reading and how we can end up having a poor understanding of what we are reading.

**

In my opinion both articles have a little bit of truth in it. As I can see technology has definitely become a big part of people lives. We are connect all the time and can have access to any information at anytime. Of course that those endless possibilities can become a little distractive if you are trying to work on your phone/computer because notifications will always pop-up and the may end up being in the way of our understanding of the quality of our work.

We used to wait...

I am an child of the digital literacy. During all my life, I have had digital material around me, I can't remember one moment in my life the I hadn't cellphones or computers around me. In the beginning those materials were not very popular, however nowadays, there isn't one person that does not own any kind of electronic device.
I was in my class called "Digital Literacy" I ran to a song called "I used to wait" and the lyrics are about how people used to write letters when they wanted to communicate with someone that is far away, and how we don't do it anymore because we have our phones with us 100% of the time. With letters becoming something obsolete, everything in our word has became faster and faster. People now will send a message and if someone does not answer within an hour, people already think they might be being ignored.
However, growing up in this new era was pretty good. I had the chance to stay in touch with my friends even though we are not at school anymore and that made it easier to keep some friendships after high school was over. It is also very nice to be able to send a quick message because people can help you if you are going through something and just need someone to talk to, because if we had to sent a letter, maybe by the time that person answered it would already be too late. The internet also helps a lot of people to expose their thoughts and opinions and you can find a lot of people that agrees  with you and that can make you feel part of something.
Of course there are bad things about this digital era, however let's just focus on the good one for now.

Until my next post! Bye!
